Engage

Emergent Sounds for Resonant Bodies hosts an event on the first Thursday of every month. We are developing our offerings to include full day workshops, research opportunities, and retreats. These programs are designed for those who wish to explore their connection with ecology, and self through listening and making in emergent and collaborative environments

Emergent Sound for
Resonant Bodies: 07

Thursday 6th February 7-9pm
Shell Space, McIver St, Brunswick 3055

During this two hour event, you are invited to engage in deep listening, whether in restful contemplation or curious exploration while exeriencing a one-off, unique collaborative soundscape as four musicians collectively respond, explore and reimagine a Nocturne

A nocturne is a piece of music written as an ode to the stillness, shadows, and tenderness of night, informed by the world and environment of its time (~18th century). While the night remains a constant, the world has changed exponentially.
We live in a time of constants, 24/7 everything — where the night holds everything but the sun. It is a space where rest and restlessness coexist. This month, the ensemble is invited to reimagine a nocturne, inquiring into how romance unfolds after dark in our modern world.

This project is supported by Arts Merri-bek through the 2024-2025 Flourish Arts Grant Program

Desire paths speak of possibility. The poets Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts write that desire paths “begin over time, imperceptibly, gathering definition as people slowly recognise and legitimise the footfall of their peers.” It’s been suggested that fifteen journeys are all that’s required to begin a fresh way, to introduce new shapes to the built environments we live in. Where the designed way is often straight and rectilinear, the desire path bends and flows. It offers grace rather than instruction.

Paved roads show us where we ought to go, but desire paths are made when we step off the road and let our hearts decide the way. Worn by the pressure of passing feet, they’re declarations of a kind of resistance: there is another way” David Farrier
